Nutritious Bitter Gourd Soup 苦瓜湯

Bitter Gourd is said to be one of the best vegetable-fruit that helps improve diabetic and toxemia conditions.  Check out the nutrition information and facts about bitter gourd here and here.

Did anyone notice that there is no oil on the surface of the soup!  This is because I am using lean meat.   Hmmmm...... Best!

This a very popular soup in Johore Bahru. There are few restaurants in Johor Bharu and Skudai serving this soup  namely Restoran Kah Kah Loke at Taman Johore Jaya,  Tamanan Sutera utama, Skudai, and Taman Ungkua Tun Aminah, Johor.  You may check out one of these outlets recommended by blogger Johor Kaki.
They have spread their wings around in Puchong, Kuchai Lama area  in the Klang Valley. Liver, intestine and etc are added into the soup.

My youngest daughter love the soup very much, of course, she just drink the soup and eat the meat but not the bitter gourd. ^_^  But I am sure when she grow older she will eventually love this vegetable too.

It is a must go to these restaurants whenever we are down to JB to visit her elder sister who if studying in UTM. . Now that with the opening of new branches in Klang Valley, whenever she craving for bitter soup, is not a fuss anymore.  Even I can cook up this soup in my very own kitchen with a fuss.

This is a simple soup (my very own version) which can be prepare easily at home.

Just boil some water (or chicken stock) in a pot with smashed garlic.

When the water  is  boiling  add in some meat (marinated with fish sauce, cornflour, pepper and a bit of sugar), and other optional ingredients of your choice like fish ball, crab stick etc.
Lastly add in the thinly sliced bitter gourd. And it is ready to serve.

Note:  The original soup with different type of pig's organ are added to the soup.
